Diane Thornton

Diane was born in Liverpool in 1949 and moved to York with her family in 1963.She studied art and ceramics in both York and Harrogate and currently works from her home studio just outside York.

The main inspiration for her work comes from the beauty of the North Yorkshire landscape, whether it is the moors, the coast or the beautiful city of York itself.

Describing herself as a colourist, Diane’s` love of colour sparks the need to paint and find a balance between reality and abstraction. Working in most media, her favourite is soft pastels for their immediacy and vibrant colours, although she has mastered many techniques and mediums. As a result Diane has had numerous exhibitions and her work is held in private collections around the world.
